The Importance of Preventative Healthcare and Regular Checkups
Nebraska Home Pediatrics & Parents has been providing in-home visits for years now, and with the opening of our physical office last year, we’re thrilled to be able to add more variety to our offerings. One thing that hasn’t changed, however, is our dedication to providing high-quality preventative care to our Omaha area patients, in order to keep them as healthy as possible.
What is preventative healthcare?
Preventative healthcare includes well child checks, annual physicals, immunizations, and other screenings that are scheduled with your provider on a regular basis. The main purpose of preventative healthcare can be found in the name – you’re simply checking in with your medical provider regularly in order to prevent disease and issues that may cause you significant, expensive problems in the future.
While it’s common for children to receive preventative healthcare due to pediatric recommendations and the insistence of pediatricians and other medical providers, many adults choose to forego preventative healthcare — often for financial reasons. The truth is, however, that preventative healthcare has been shown to actually reduce future medical bills by preventing those bills from ever having to incur in the first place. Your insurance plan should cover all preventative visits at 100%.
Common Preventive Services in Omaha
At Nebraska Home Pediatrics & Parents, we provide preventative healthcare services for both children and adults, and work hard to provide an efficient, friendly experience. We know how important it is to feel comfortable with a medical provider you trust, and we’re confident in our team’s ability to meet that need.
Some preventative care services that we provide at our Omaha clinic include:
- Well Child Checks
- Annual Physicals
- Childhood immunizations
- Adult immunizations
- Laboratory testing and screening
Benefits of Regular Check Ups
Establishing a routine of regular care with your medical provider is the most effective way to stay on top of your health. By having an experienced, knowledgeable medical expert seeing you each year, you’ll have the benefit of a detailed medical history that allows your provider to get a baseline view of your health. This is only one facet of the benefits of preventative care. In addition to the above, you can also experience benefits like:
- Early detection of disease
- Regular review and updates of prescriptions
- Peace of mind
- Reduced healthcare costs through early detection and prevention
- Affordable access to screenings and immunizations
- Management of chronic conditions
- A general awareness of your health
- Recommendations for lifestyle changes, if necessary
How often should you book a check up?
The answer to this question often varies from provider to provider, but at Nebraska Home Pediatrics & Parents, we recommend booking an annual physical for adults. For children, we see our pediatrics patients at the following intervals:
- 1-2 days after hospital discharge
- 2 weeks of age
- 1 month of age
- 2 months of age
- 4 months of age
- 6 months of age
- 9 months of age
- 12 months of age
- 15 months of age
- 18 months of age
- 24 months of age
- 30 months of age
- 3 years of age
- Annually starting at 4 years of age
- Once your child is active in sports, we recommend scheduling your annual physical after May 1st so you can complete a sports physical at the same time as the annual physical.
