Nebraska Home Pediatrics offers a full range of pediatric services, including well-child checks, vaccinations, sick visits at the clinic, house calls for sick kids, simple laceration repair, and splinting for uncomplicated sprained and broken bones. Children who complete well-child checks and any school or sports physicals at Nebraska Home Pediatrics have a separate door for entry into the clinic with the goal that healthy kids leave the clinic without any new illnesses.
History of the Company and the Founder
Nebraska Home Pediatrics was founded in 2017 by a mother of four who knew first-hand the inconveniences of having a sick child. With more than 15 years of healthcare experience, the founder decided to take her passion for helping sick children on the road with the mobile pediatric practice, Nebraska Home Pediatrics. The team at Nebraska Home Pediatrics is comprised of board-certified nurse practitioners who come to your home when your child is sick and provide high-quality, personalized care. The nurse practitioners are trained and licensed to treat minor illnesses and injuries and write prescriptions when medically appropriate. Appointments are convenient and quick, plus there is no waking of a sleeping child, no long waits in a clinic lobby, and no unnecessary exposure to other sick children.
In the summer of 2018, school physicals with immunizations were offered as an additional service. The physicals included Kindergarten physicals, Seventh Grade physicals, and Sports physicals, and they were completed all from the convenience and comfort of the patient’s home. With this new approach to pediatric care, insurance payers were not yet up to speed with this healthcare model. Therefore, they denied coverage and payment of the physicals completed at home, even though the only difference was the place of service (office versus home).
Due to this place of service stipulation, it was decided to offer well-child visits, including school physicals, from a “strictly-healthy” office location but to continue offering the house calls for sick visits so that there was no exposure to sick children when a healthy child was coming to the office for their well-child visit. Nebraska Home Pediatrics teamed up with a local chiropractor and a multidisciplinary health team and subleased an exam room to complete the well-child visits at an office location. It is important for Nebraska Home Pediatrics to practice health promotion in a health-promoting office space for our families.
Then in January 2023, Nebraska Home Pediatrics opened the doors to their first brick-and-mortar clinic located near 168th and Center. Nurse practitioners continue to see patients at their homes for sick visits while providing care for illnesses and minor injuries to patients at the clinic.
